Apartment Decor Ideas for Your Rental

If you are going to decorate the apartment, you always have to find a balance between the concept of how you want your place to look and, of course, the financial cost. Even more so if you are planning on decorating your rental. Of course, if you paint the walls or decide to change the faucet in the kitchen, you will not be able to take it with you to the next place.

However, if you plan to settle in your new home for a while, it might be worth investing in. The good news is that many of the decor ideas are easy to implement and, what’s more, easy to bring to your next rental.

1. Major Furniture Pieces

If you can afford to spend a pretty penny when you move into your rental, you should consider buying a few lovely furniture pieces. A stylish couch, bed, or coffee table can become a cornerstone of the room and draw attention away from some flaws of the space you might not be able to conceal by yourself.

Of course, later you will be able to take your favorite furniture with you to your next house! That is why it’s totally worth it if you invest some time and money to buy pieces that you will love. And if you are short on cash, plan a trip to a flea market or a pawn shop, where you can find some gems.

2. Rugs

A beautiful rug can add a splash of color to any apartment and give it a unique character. Using a rug is also a perfect way to frame your space.

A rug is a piece of decor that can be used for both functional and esthetic purposes. It can protect a beautiful wood or cover horrible laminate flooring, helps to reduce noise, which can be beneficial for families with children or pets, and warms up your place. Rugs are used by designers to brighten up dark rooms or create a colorful accent, and some people even treat it as somewhat of an art piece. No matter if you always put first design or functionality, a good rug should definitely be a purchase to consider when decorating your rental.

3. Mirrors

A mirror is another great tool to use if you search for ways to polish up your space. This is one of the best techniques you can use to make a room look more spacious or brighter, as mirrors trick your mind into believing that area is larger than it actually is, which is crucial for a small apartment.

There are many ways you can incorporate a mirror in the room. For example, a wide wall mirror behind a piece of furniture will visually expand the space. You can also put a mirror in a position so it would reflect the natural light coming from the window or brighten up a room by placing a lamp or candles next to the mirror.

4. Art Work

Another piece of decor that can become a real game-changer for your room is a painting or any other artwork. It is a great way to show your taste and individuality and bring a splash of color to your rental.

If you cannot boast of having impressive artistic skills and do not want to spend a fortune on a real painting, you should consider getting a custom-made canvas print. It will serve the same decor purpose as a regular painting and remind you about the events and people you cherish. Ordering a canvas print, you can choose any photo you would like to have on your wall, as well as pick the size.

5. Tile and Wall Decals

Wall decals or wall stickers are an excellent find for any renter. They are cheap, easy to buy online, and, importantly, can be easily removed from the wall when you decide to move out. Additionally, they are not a one-time thing, and after removal, you can take your favorite stickers with you to the next apartment.

You can also use decals on furniture and tiles, so basically, anywhere your space might benefit from it.

6. Knick-knacks

Another easy way to add some color to your rental and show off your personality is by placing knick-knacks and decorative objects on your shelves and windowsills. Some of them can be purely decorative, such as a figurine of your favorite animal, while others can also have some practical use, for instance, a vase, a candle holder, or a beautiful photo frame. Choose items that will make you happy and remember that they don’t have to be expensive! Head off to the nearest pawn shop and give a second life to the decorative objects you’ll like to add some character to your home.

7. Lamps

Light is another aspect you have to take into account when thinking about decorating your rental. A well-lit (don’t confuse with bright-lit) room, in addition to utilizing natural light, will seem cozier and make you feel relaxed and comfortable. However, each room in your house serves its own purpose, so the lighting should be different as well. For example, you should be careful with the ceiling lighting in the bedroom but think through the area next to your bed, as you should have a good reading light. Similarly, you might want to add some extra light to certain points in the kitchen or put an additional lamp on your desk to make your working hours more productive.

8. Consider Modern Solutions

If you seek to make your rental as practical as possible and don’t have much space for multiple furniture pieces, consider incorporating some multifunctional furniture. In our times, there are plenty of options to choose from for each room. For example, you can find a piece that serves as a sofa, desk, and bookcase all at once! It will not only save a lot of space in your apartment but can also be a way to express your individuality, as not many of your friends would have the same item at their house.

9. Add Greenery

It is a well-known fact that there are many plants that can be beneficial for your home. Some will help you fight humidity, others can increase the level of oxygen and boost the quality of air. But houseplants are also a great way to add some life and color to your room. Similarly to items we’ve mentioned earlier, you can choose bright-colored plants to create some accents or plant them in colorful pots.

Even if you can’t boast of having a green thumb, there are plenty of options that don’t require any special care. However, if getting plants feels like a large commitment to you, consider buying fresh flowers every now and then — it will serve the same purpose of adding some vibrance to your room with no strings attached.
